Modern Music Ensemble

Modern Music Ensemble is a class that meets first period at Medford High School. Students of all grade levels, instrumentation, and experience level are encouraged to join. Under the direction of Sarah Fard, the class is a student centered opportunity for young musicians to work together on songs that inspire them, as well as songwriting, towards Spring performances. The 2024-2025 ensemble had a succesful performance season that included MHS's band night, a concert at The Burren in Davis Square, participation in Boston University's Play On Music festival, and bistro performance at the high school's own Bistro 489.

The Medford High School Modern Music Ensemble is a collaboration of multiple genres. Each member is a piece of the musical puzzle, bringing in influences such as Carlos Jobim, Van Halen, Clairo, Daniel Caesar, Heart, and more! This band is an opportunity for students to enhance their musical skills, no matter the starting point-- from first timers to veterans, everyone is welcome! Since its creation in 2023, the Modern Music Ensemble has performed at various establishments, including The Burren and Massachusetts All State music festival. The group is constantly changing with new arrivals and graduating students, shaping the instrumentation and musical aesthetic of the group.
